March is Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate the achievements and resilience of women and girls who are shaping the future. Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Dallas is leading the way in empowering young women to be strong, smart, and bold, ensuring they have the confidence and resources to reach their full potential.
At the helm of this transformative work is Beth Myers, a seasoned nonprofit leader with over 30 years of experience. As CEO, Beth is passionate about breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for all girls to thrive. We sat down with Beth to learn how Girls Inc. is making an impact in Dallas, the challenges they face, and their bold vision for the future. She also highlights an inspiring success story and details how the community can support their mission—including through the Power 2 the Girl Conference, an annual opportunity to invest in the next generation of female leaders.
Can you share the mission of Girls Inc. and how it drives the work you do in Dallas?
What challenges do you face in serving the community, and how does Girls Inc. address those obstacles?
One of our biggest challenges as an organization is securing the resources needed to reach all the girls who could benefit from our programming. In Dallas alone, there are 50,000 girls who could use our support, which is a daunting number.
This fiscal year, we are on track to serve 4,500 girls—a significant number, but still not enough to meet the full demand. Our greatest obstacle is ensuring we have the financial resources to expand our reach and impact. By continuing to grow our funding and support, we can serve more girls and provide them with the tools they need to thrive.
What is the vision for the future of Girls Inc. Dallas, and how can the community get involved or support your efforts?
Our bold goal is to serve 25,000 girls—our “moonshot” vision that drives and inspires us every day. We are constantly working to expand our reach so that no girl misses out on the support and programming she needs.
To achieve this, we rely on two key resources: financial support and volunteer engagement. Individuals, corporations, and foundations play a crucial role in helping us grow—whether through donations or hands-on involvement. We offer customized volunteer opportunities, especially for corporate partners, to create meaningful engagement experiences.
The two biggest ways to support our mission are through financial contributions and volunteer efforts, both of which directly impact the lives of the girls we serve.
Can you share a success story of a young girl whose life has been positively influenced by Girls Inc.?
There are so many, but one that stands out is a young woman who lost her mother at a very young age. She was raised by her aunt, who learned about our program through her school and enrolled her in one of our summer camps.
At first, she was shy and hesitant to get involved, but that didn’t last long. By the end of the week, she was excited, engaged, and happy. Her aunt was overjoyed to see such a positive change in her. She continued to be part of Girls Inc. for several years, building confidence, friendships, and a strong support system.
While we couldn’t replace the loss of her mother, we were able to provide a sisterhood of support that helped her grow, connect with others facing challenges, and find the confidence to thrive. Stories like hers truly capture the heart of what we do.
Can you tell us about the Power 2 the Girl Conference? How can the community get involved?
The Power to the Girl Conference is one of our most exciting annual events. It took place this year on Saturday, March 1, at the University of Texas at Dallas, with the theme “Forge Your Future.” The conference brings together 250–300 middle and high school girls from across Dallas County for a transformative day of connection, confidence, and career exploration. Many attendees came from Title I schools in under-resourced communities, and for many, this is their first experience with Girls Inc. programming. This year, we were thrilled to feature Lady Jade and Dasia Taylor as special guests, inspiring girls to overcome challenges and reach their full potential. The energy in the conference center is always electric, making it a truly unforgettable day.
The community can support Girls Inc. through volunteering or through sponsorships, which help expand our reach and impact. For those looking to make a difference, this is a powerful way to support and uplift young girls in our community.
